The California Consumer Privacy Act (effective 2020) and its 2023 successor, the California Privacy Rights Act, together form the most consequential U.S. state privacy regime. They grant access, deletion, correction, opt-out-of-sale/sharing, and limit-use rights, and create the California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) as a dedicated regulator.
