Do you know what AI is in use, and who decides what gets adopted?

1. Could you produce today a complete inventory of every AI tool in use across your organization, including AI features embedded in software you already own (CRM, practice management, document management, conferencing platforms)?
2. Is one named person accountable for approving new AI tools, with a defined standard they approve against?
3. Before an AI tool is adopted, is there a documented evaluation of its accuracy, data handling, and vendor terms, and is it re-reviewed periodically after deployment?

Privacy

Do you know where confidential information goes once it reaches an AI tool?

4. For each AI tool you use, do you know where confidential information goes and which vendors and sub-processors touch it, where it is stored, how long it is retained, and whether it is used to train models?
5. Do your AI vendor agreements address retention, deletion, and restrictions on using your confidential information for training?

Does your team know what is safe to put into an AI tool, and what is not?

10. Has everyone with access to confidential information been trained on what may and may not be entered into AI tools, especially public chatbots?
11. Is there a mandatory human-verification step before any AI-generated content that includes facts, figures, and citations reaches a client, a court, a regulator, or a file?
12. Have you trained your team on AI-enabled fraud (e.g. cloned voices, deepfake requests) and is there a verification protocol for money movement and identity-sensitive instructions?

Information Flow

Do you control which AI assistants are listening, recording, and transcribing?

13. Before every confidential meeting, do you know which AI notetakers, transcription engines, or recording features will be active on your side and other meeting participants’ sides and how consent is handled?
14. Do you deliberately control which AI assistants are enabled in your conferencing, email, and document systems, rather than accepting vendor defaults?
15. Could you trace the path a single piece of confidential information takes through your tech stack and every AI system it passes through, and every third party it reaches?

Document Hygiene

Is confidential information stripped from documents before they reach an external AI system?

Could you explain, and document, how AI touches your clients’ work?

19. Could every member of your team accurately explain to a client how the organization uses AI and how their information is protected?
20. Do you disclose AI use proactively and obtain informed consent where your professional duties require it, rather than waiting to be asked?
21. If a client, court, or regulator asked, “Was AI involved in this work, and did a human review it?” could you answer with documentation?

Common questions

What is an AI readiness assessment?

It is a structured way to measure whether your organization has the governance, privacy, and document controls in place to use AI safely. This assessment scores you across seven dimensions and flags the gaps a regulator, examiner, or bad actor could find.

How is the score calculated?

You answer 21 questions, scoring each one: Yes is 2 points, Partially or informally is 1 point, No or don’t know is 0 points, for a maximum of 42. Three questions are critical. A "No" on any of them caps your readiness at AI-Exposed no matter how well you score elsewhere.

Does my information leave my browser?

Your answers are scored entirely in your browser. We keep only anonymous, aggregate stats, such as the overall score and readiness level, never tied to your name or email. If you choose to email yourself a copy, your results go to your inbox and are not stored against you.
